Illustration 5: Prejudice

Prejudice is all about an attitude that someone has towards someone else. It is usually a negative assessment about what a person or group like before the actually meet them. The “ Ecological fallacy” taking one attribute from one person to base it on a group. Also, it draws a conclusion on someone about a group that results for someone not to like a specific group. The “ Exception fallacy” is the complete opposite of the Ecological fallacy. It is drawing a conclusion of a group to judge about one person when not really getting to no them. “Stereotyping” is the generalization about a category of people that are applied to all members of one group. I have personally seen people to do among the group of friends that I hang out with. I think it is terrible but something that people do without even thinking about it and just do it as a simple everyday thing to judge people on what they have learnt about them in the past if the group or that one person.

Illustration 4: Psychological Theories

The relationship between prejudice and discrimination is based on three different theories. The first theory is “Scapegoat Theory” which was developed by Dallar et al,. in 1939. This theory originates in the frustrations of people who want to blame someone else for their problems. People do this because they do not like the feeling that they get of being the one blamed. The second theory is the “ Projection Theory” it is all about the defense mechanism in one self. It is ones own acceptable or unwanted thoughts or emotion. This usually occurs when they do something wrong and denial.  The third theory is “ Authoritarian Personality Theory” it was created by Adorno in 1950.  This is all about the extreme prejudice personality traits that link people who believe in cultural norms, traditions and values.

Illustration 3: Meads Stages Of the Self

Meads stages of the self is the growing stages of human and how they learn and interact with people. The first stage of the is the “preparatory/symbolic” stage. This stage is at the ages 2-5 year olds, and where children intimate people who they are usually around. The second stage is “ play/role taking” stage where the children develop skills of communication through interaction with others. The “ game stage” is where children consider actual tasks and relationships. Their attitude, viewpoint, and expectation of society is changed to when they were children. This gives a very detailed and clear view on how children grow and learn throughout society and interactions with others.

Illustration 2 : What is Culture?

Culture is a complex collection of values, beliefs, behaviors, and material objects shared by a group passed on from one generation to another. It is something that is learned and socially transmitted customs, knowledge. The five defining features are, one that culture is learned from generation to generation. Culture is shared through families and friends. Culture is transmitted, and Culture is cumulative which means that more and more materials are collected as they pass from generation to generation. Culture is human meaning that only humans can have cultures not anything else. Culture is a social construct. Growing up into different religious groups I was brought up with two different cultures. Two different views on things that have been passed on from my grandparents to my parents and now to me.

Illustration 1: Sociology in Canada

Sociology in Canada has its own distinctive style and has evolved since the early Canadian sociology. There is five factors that define Canadian sociology. The first style is Geography. This factor is all about the size, climate, community, and proximity to United States. The second factor is Francophone sociology. The french are divided into two solitudes, the Anglo Francophone and the Francophones. This is with The Quite Revolution, politics, religion, and social justice. The third is Canadianization. This factor uses American influences for the Canadian sociology when actually it needs to be investigated with Canadian society and Candian Perspective. The fourth is Political Economy. It has the interest in the interactions of politics, government and social and cultural constitution of markets, institutions and actors. This factor is involved by the Harold Innis and Staple Thesis. The last factor is Radical Approach. It is the Canadianization movement, feminism, and Francophone sociology. Indeceaty Exposed

This video is about how people are systematically racist and that they do not even know that they are doing it. This video there is one women that is control of a class where all the brown eyed people were sitting on the sides of the class while the blue eyed mostly white people had to sit in the middle either on the floor or on chairs. This video opened my eyes because it showed me how some people that have the higher power on things are very ignorant and they think that they are not racist and they know and understand everything, when in reality they do not understand anything. Also, It shows how much racism is in the world, and even with the amount of racism there is and how many people get picked on they still would never do anything like that to anyone else. This really touched my heart because it shows how much people want to change the world. Overall, this video is my favorite and it keep the mind of thinking twice if I am acting racist and to stop that habit.

Zimbardo : Standford County Prison

In my opinion, I think this video was interesting because it show how people act in a similar situation of prisoner and guard, Or in any case where there is a higher authority and someone that they control. This project caused the prisoners who came in as regular teenagers that were looking for a job, to someone that came into deindividualization. These men were under the influence that if there was atmosphere as an actual prison that these people would get into the characters and prisoners and guards. This experiment only last for a week or two, in those two weeks the prisoners started to disrupt and not listen to the guards as much as they did in the start due to the mental change. There was one prisoners that needed to get out because he was going crazy and thought he was in endanger. Overall, this experiment did not go through because of the quick change in the acts of the prisoners and guards. This video is interesting and eye opening because it shows how quick people can change and fall into a roll.
